Decorative Metallic Epoxy in Mississauga, ON - One-of-a-Kind 3D Floors for Homes and Showrooms

Toronto Elite Epoxy Flooring - Mississauga installs hand-manipulated metallic systems, marble and ocean pours, and multi-tone 3D floors for basements, home gyms, garages, showrooms, cafes, and reception areas. Each one is built on a solvent-free epoxy base, a pigmented metallic coat worked by hand into an organic pattern, and an aliphatic polyaspartic topcoat that locks in the depth and holds the colour.

Metallic floors usually fail for two reasons that installers rarely mention. A solvent-based primer or base coat underneath gives off vapour as it cures, which rises through the metallic layer and leaves pinholes and bubble trails, often within the first week. Aromatic topcoats also shift colour under UV, turning silvers yellow and charcoals brown within about 18 months of sun or bright retail LEDs. A zero-VOC base and a UV-stable aliphatic topcoat prevent both.

A residential metallic floor of 500-800 sq ft takes about 2 days of active work, and commercial spaces with logo inlays take 2-3. Pricing runs $9 to $16 per sq ft depending on pigment count, design complexity, and topcoat sheen. In Mississauga, we see these floors most in Port Credit and Lorne Park homes and in boutiques and showrooms along Lakeshore Road and Dundas Street.

Why Ordinary Flooring Falls Short for Feature Spaces

Tile grout, plank seams, and painted floors are fine for laundry rooms and storage. They fall short in a basement theatre, wine room, showroom, or statement garage. Standard flooring can’t match the depth and shine of a metallic pour, and it ages like every other floor in the building.

A custom metallic or 3D epoxy floor looks like poured stone or liquid metal, and no two installs are alike. It’s a design choice that still handles daily wear as well as our garage floor epoxy systems, installed by a full-service epoxy flooring contractor that also coats warehouses and plants.

What is Decorative & Metallic Epoxy?

Decorative metallic epoxy is a multi-layer system. Metallic pigment is mixed into wet epoxy and worked by hand into marbled, ocean, or brushed-metal patterns. The floor becomes the centrepiece of the room, with a depth that tile, carpet, and plank can’t copy.

It’s liquid art. We pour, blow, and brush the pigment while the resin is still wet, and the pattern sets as the epoxy cures. Because the colour moves in real time, each floor is one of a kind.

Underneath is the same 100% solids, commercial-grade epoxy and diamond-grind prep we use on garage and commercial floors. A clear protective topcoat keeps the gloss and depth intact for years.

What Every Metallic Epoxy Install Includes

Each metallic project includes:

  • On-site consultation within one business week, with real-material sample boards
  • Diamond grinding and full slab prep, with moisture testing on basements
  • 100% solids commercial-grade epoxy base coat
  • Custom metallic pigment layering, with colours and pattern chosen together
  • Liquid-art application by experienced installers
  • Clear urethane or polyaspartic topcoat for durability and depth
  • Careful detailing around walls, columns, and stairs
  • A written warranty on the system

What Is Metallic / 3D Epoxy and How Is It Made?

Metallic epoxy is 100% solids resin mixed with very fine mica and metalite pigment, typically 10-80 microns. When the wet resin is worked with a brush, squeegee, or air, the particles settle at different depths and angles. Mica flakes are flat and highly reflective, so the angle of each particle decides how much light comes back to your eye. That’s what creates the sense of depth and movement.

A proper system starts with a CSP 2-3 surface profile on the ICRI scale. Basement slabs in Mississauga often have moisture moving through them, given the clay soils and the many older homes without a vapour barrier under the slab. So we test before any product touches the concrete. Slabs that read above 3 lbs per 1,000 sq ft per 24 hours on the ASTM F1869 test get a moisture-tolerant epoxy primer first. Skipping that step is the most common reason metallic floors peel within 18 months.

The decorative layer is a 100% solids epoxy mid-coat seeded with metallic pigment. It’s then worked a second time with acetone, a torch, or forced air to develop the pattern. Once the mid-coat gels, we sometimes add a fine metallic powder for extra depth before sealing it with an aliphatic polyurea or polyaspartic topcoat. Aliphatic chemistry is the right call in rooms with daylight because it won’t yellow. In a windowless basement, a 3-4 mil aromatic urethane topcoat is just as durable and costs less.

Most requests we get in Mississauga today lean toward cool, high-contrast palettes. Gunmetal Silver over a charcoal base is the top pick for basement theatres and wine rooms, where the goal is a moody floor that reads as architecture rather than decoration. Ocean blue and silver, made by pouring tinted translucent epoxy over a white base and moving it with a heat gun, is still popular for home gyms and basement bars in larger homes around Lorne Park and Mineola.

On the commercial side, showrooms and boutiques are moving toward brushed copper and warm gold on light grey. Those finishes photograph well under 4000K LED track lighting and contrast nicely against dark fixtures in a way polished concrete can’t. The retail strips along Dundas Street and the independent shops and cafes on Lakeshore Road in Port Credit are a natural fit. Designers sometimes call it a “liquid terrazzo,” because it gives a similar play of light at roughly 40-60% of real terrazzo’s installed cost.

Glow-in-the-dark additives have become a practical design tool for stair landings and basement exit paths. Strontium aluminate powder, rather than the older zinc sulphide, charges under normal LED light and glows blue-green for six to eight hours after the lights go off. Broadcast at 200-400 grams per square metre into the wet mid-coat, it’s visible at floor level at night and barely noticeable by day.

More colour matching now comes through interior designers. We often receive specs tied to Benjamin Moore or Sherwin-Williams paint codes, and our suppliers custom-blend metallic powders to match within a Delta-E of 2 or less. Custom matching adds two to three weeks to material lead time, which we build into the schedule for projects with a firm deadline.

Metallic Epoxy Cost vs Standard Flake Epoxy

There’s a real price gap between metallic and a standard full-broadcast flake floor, and it helps to know where it comes from. A full-flake floor on a 500 sq ft basement costs $5-$7 per sq ft installed, including grinding, epoxy base, flake, and a polyaspartic topcoat. A single-colour metallic on the same slab runs $9-$11. A multi-layer 3D pour with two or three colours and an aliphatic polyurea topcoat reaches $13-$16.

Three things drive the difference. First, materials. Mica metalite powders cost $80-$140 per kg at trade pricing, and a 500 sq ft pour uses 2-3 kg, while vinyl flake costs about $4-$8 per kg and covers much more area. Second, labour. The pattern has to be developed while the resin is workable, which takes two or three installers working at once. In summer heat of 25-30°C, a 500 sq ft area gives you only 20-35 minutes, with no room for do-overs. Third, a UV-stable aliphatic polyurea topcoat adds $1.50-$2.50 per sq ft over standard polyaspartic, and it’s the correct spec for any metallic floor near windows.

For a 600 sq ft basement, a realistic all-in budget for a two-colour metallic with a polyaspartic topcoat is $6,000-$8,400. The same money would cover a flake system on a 1,000-1,400 sq ft garage. Both carry the same adhesion warranty, so the choice isn’t about lifespan. It’s about whether the floor is there to work or to be looked at. If every other surface in a renovation is custom, a $7 flake floor under a $15,000 bar looks out of place, and metallic is the logical finish. For purely functional spaces, flake is better value, and we’ll say so. Toronto Elite Epoxy Flooring - Mississauga can measure your space and recommend a system at the on-site visit.

How thick is a metallic epoxy floor system?

A complete commercial-spec metallic system is 40-60 mils total dry film thickness. That’s about 10-15 mils of moisture primer, 20-30 mils of pigmented metallic mid-coat, and 8-12 mils of polyaspartic or polyurea topcoat. Altogether, that adds less than 1.5 mm to the floor height, so most homes don’t need transition strips at doorways.

Can metallic epoxy be repaired if it chips or scratches?

Spot repairs are possible but rarely invisible. The pattern is created live, so it can’t be matched exactly on a patch. Recoating the full topcoat can help blend a repair, but only if the base hasn’t already yellowed from UV. The better approach in high-use areas is to specify a harder topcoat from the start, such as a 100% solids polyurea at 60 Shore D or higher, so repairs are less likely to be needed.

What prep does an older basement slab need before metallic epoxy?

Most slabs poured before 1980 have two issues: weak surface laitance from the original pour and moisture from having no vapour barrier underneath. Diamond grinding to CSP 2 removes the laitance and opens the surface for a mechanical bond. Readings above 3 lbs per 1,000 sq ft per 24 hours on the ASTM F1869 test call for a moisture-tolerant primer before any decorative product goes down. On older homes in areas like Port Credit and Clarkson, we budget for that primer as standard because high moisture is so common.

How does the metallic epoxy installation affect scheduling around a renovation?

Metallic should be one of the last trades in a renovation. Drywall dust and compound residue contaminate the slab and add prep time if the floor goes in early. The HVAC needs to run during the cure to keep the space above 10°C and below 85% relative humidity, the minimum conditions for 100% solids epoxy to cure properly. A full three-day install, covering grind, prime, metallic coat, and topcoat, needs the space clear of other trades the whole time.

Is metallic epoxy safe for a home gym or space where people exercise barefoot?

A standard high-gloss topcoat on a metallic floor has a wet coefficient of friction below 0.5, which is too slippery for barefoot workouts by commercial fitness standards. A matte or satin polyaspartic topcoat, or a broadcast of 30-50 mesh aluminium oxide, raises the dry coefficient to 0.6 or higher without hiding the pattern. We offer anti-slip aggregate as a standard option for basement gyms that double as entertainment spaces.

Metallic Epoxy FAQs

How much does decorative metallic epoxy cost in Mississauga?

A single-colour metallic with a polyaspartic topcoat typically runs $9-$11 per sq ft. A multi-layer 3D pour with two or three colours and an aliphatic polyurea topcoat runs $13-$16. For a 600 sq ft basement, a realistic budget is $6,000-$8,400 for a two-colour floor. We bring sample boards to the assessment and confirm a fixed price afterward.

Can you install metallic epoxy in a Port Credit cafe or boutique without closing for a week?

Usually, yes. Most small retail and cafe floors can be done over a weekend or a few overnight shifts. The metallic coat and topcoat need about 24 hours before light foot traffic, so we plan the schedule around your closing days.

Will the colours fade in a sunny room or garage?

Not with the right topcoat. We use aliphatic polyaspartic or polyurea over metallic floors that get daylight, because it doesn't yellow. Aromatic topcoats are cheaper but can shift colour within a year or two in sun.

Is metallic epoxy a good choice for a busy garage?

It works well in showroom and collector garages. For a garage that sees daily salt, slush, and dragged equipment, quartz flake hides wear better. Many clients choose metallic for the basement and flake for the garage.

Is every metallic floor really unique?

Yes. The pigment is moved by hand while the epoxy is wet, so the pattern can't be repeated exactly. You'll see a consistent style in our portfolio, but no two floors match.
